Carter’s Battle with Leukemia
This picture was picked out by Carter himself.
Carter, an 8-year-old with a bright smile and a courageous spirit, was diagnosed with leukemia and required an extended hospital stay for treatment, lasting 1-2 months. Living with his single mom, who is a high school math teacher, and his older brother, Carter's family faced significant challenges. While her colleagues generously donated sick and vacation time so she could be by Carter’s side, the family struggled to cover essential household expenses, particularly their mortgage payments.
The Big Z Foundation stepped in to help. We provided a grant that covered their mortgage for a month, giving Carter’s mom the peace of mind she needed to focus entirely on her son's care and recovery.
Thanks to the support of our donors, Carter’s family received the financial relief they needed, allowing them to focus on what truly mattered—Carter’s health. This support made a world of difference for Carter’s family during a difficult time.
